Venessa Monokian

Venessa Monokian is an artist whose work investigates ideas about her environment, extending beyond the tangible to explore the psychological elements of space. The viewer's physical interaction with her pieces is integral to the final experience, fostering a dynamic partnership between the artist, the work, and the audience.

In 2025, Monokian exhibited at the College of the Mainland, completed an Instagram takeover for the Canadian Magenta Foundation, and will present work in CraftTexas 2025 at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, juried by Abraham Thomas.

In 2024, she was honored with the prestigious Jones Artist Award from the Houston Endowment for the Arts.

Based in Houston and affiliated with Box13 ArtSpace and Throughline collective , Monokian is originally from Miami and holds an MFA from Florida International University.

Her artistic journey gained early recognition through the 2011 WLRN documentary Rising Tide: A Story of Miami Artists, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Andrew Hevia. Her work has been exhibited internationally at notable venues including Met/Gal in Austin, the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, Mac Fine Art in Fort Lauderdale, the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland, and Panal 361 in Argentina.
