This is the beginning of a series of works that is both video and photography. For many years these two ways of working were separate, each existing on their own. My photography has often bordered on installation and it only seems logical to connect the two media. The flower used in this work is a night bloom from a cactus that was planted in my parents back yard upon my birth. During the wet season it bursts into these special blooms. The cactus stands at a whopping 10 feet tall and gets covered almost top to bottom with these flowers; but it is only momentary. Once the light of dawn hits, the flowers collapse and fall to the ground. I often feel that this is how inspiration comes to me. It slowly opens and emerges, just to collapse upon itself and fade. This is a cyclical event and the animation is looped to convey this.
